Joseph: Presence

Genesis 39 - Josh Fairbaugh

The story of Joseph is a familiar one: After being rejected by his dysfunctional family, a down-on-his-luck hero survives great suffering to find himself on top, where he overcomes his bitterness and grief to save both himself and his family. It’s a story filled with the painful tensions that shape our lives: love and hatred, affluence and poverty, honesty and deception, loyalty and betrayal, power and oppression, forgiveness and revenge, blessing and cursing. Yet it’s also a story about the mystery of God, working in broken places to fulfill his promises in surprising ways. When read with this lens, Joseph’s story becomes a paradigm for understanding God’s activity in our own lives, and teaches us to live all of our lives in the shadow of his promises.
